The Relationship Between the Leadership Capabilities and Strategic Direction

Abstract

This research a dresses two important variables at both organizational thinking level and strategic level, (that strategic orientation and leadership capabilities ). the researcher aims through the statistical analysis to find the nature of the relationship between two variables, we conduct our study in public sector represented the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. our sample consist of (37) from top management in this ministry (ministry adviser, Deputy Minister, head of University, assistant head of University , general managers). We employ a questionnaire which was designed according to international standards , there was (48) items in this questionnaire covered the variables of research, we test several hypotheses related to correlation's relationship among the variables of study . , We use several statistical tools such as means , coefficient of variation, standard deviation, correlation coefficient (Spearman) we find that Vision and Mission of Ministry, university and setting levels are characterized by lack of focus as a result of much words and personality traits (charismatic) which is an important criterion for selection of leaders , as well as other capabilities which have as essential role in achieving strategic direction (goals) according to results of this study. We gave some recommendations is establishing an institute for development of leadership at ministry of higher Education level in order to develop leaders of higher levels of management , as well as focusing on strategic concepts . characterized not to the large number of words and traits focus an important criterion in the as well as the rest of the building and have a significant role in achieving orientation Alastrateja.astndt study to the findings, to put some of the recommendations that can address these findings and: the development of the Institute for Leadership Development at the Ministry of Higher Education is working on the capabilities as well as a focus on strategic concepts.
